Living in Paris as an expat: the safe deposit box problem
When you arrive in Paris from abroad, you quickly discover that securing valuables is harder than it should be. Traditional banks only rent safe deposit boxes to their own account holders — and opening a French bank account as a newcomer can take weeks, often requiring proof of address, a residence permit and a French income. Meanwhile, your watches, jewellery, gold, important documents or family heirlooms have nowhere safe to go. And increasingly, even French banks are closing their vault rooms, leaving fewer options every year.
No French bank account required
This is exactly the barrier Le Safe will remove. Because Le Safe is not a bank — its single business is the rental of secure safe deposit boxes — there will be no account to open and no banking relationship to establish. You will simply rent a box in a secure Paris vault, keeping the bank (or banks) you already have at home or abroad. No French bank account required: that promise is the foundation of the service, and it is what makes Le Safe a natural fit for expats who have not yet — or may never — open a local account.

For expats of every nationality
Le Safe is built for the international community of Paris, whatever your background. American expats who keep US accounts and want a secure place for valuables without navigating the French banking system. British, Canadian or Australian residents settling in after Brexit or a relocation. European professionals — German, Belgian, Dutch, Italian, Spanish — paid in euros by a French employer but still banking at home or through an online bank. Diplomats, students, retirees and frequent travellers who spend part of the year in Paris. If you live in Paris at least part of the time and have something worth protecting, Le Safe will be designed with you in mind.
An English-speaking service
One of the most common frustrations for newcomers is dealing with administrative services entirely in French. Le Safe will offer an English-speaking service from the first contact through to your appointment, so you can understand every step and sign with confidence. No language barrier, no confusion — just a clear, straightforward way to secure what matters to you.
How it will work
The process will be simple. You will get in touch online to reserve your box ahead of the opening. When we open in 2026, you will come in for a single appointment in Paris to sign your contract, complete a quick identity check (a valid ID and a proof of address less than 3 months old) and collect your access badge and keys in person. From that moment, your box will be immediately usable: you can store your valuables the same day and then access them on your own, six days a week.
Secure, private and independent storage
Le Safe will provide secure storage in a private vault built to the European EN 1143-1 standard, under 24/7 video surveillance and protected by a multi-step access process (personal card, code, biometrics and facial recognition). Each box will be covered by adjustable insurance up to €1,000,000. Just as importantly, your privacy will be the foundation of the service: a standard identity verification confirms who you are as a renter, but you will never have to declare what you keep inside. Your box, your business — secured, confidential and independent from any bank.
